Learning Curve to friendship <3

Amellia has been working really hard on building up her relationship with Dylan. She understands that he is a little different to others and that he doesn’t enjoy touching, close contact or really playing with her. Though I’m sure you can see how this is very difficult for a five year old to have to understand, and to follow through with. This is especially hard for her as she is basically the polar opposite of Dylan!

She wants to shower him with love and care. She wants to play with him 24/7, kiss and cuddle him and have in-depth conversations about what they are building with the Duplo blocks.. but she has slowly learnt that this isn’t going to get her very high up in Dylans popularity list. When he was building she used to go over and try and help and he would get frustrated at her and hit out, I always found this very hard to watch and explain to her over and over again. She wasn’t doing it out of badness, she just wanted to play and engage with her brother like she would other children. Whenever she then came anywhere near him he would hit out, try to bite her, scream etc at her.. and he still does now but not to anywhere near the same extent. They are both learning how each other work. She knows that if she goes and does something he can’t explain to her he is happy by himself so he will shout or do something else to show her, he has also learnt that not every time she walks past him or sits near that she is going to interrupt what he is doing.

I have seen huge progress between them recently, like all of a sudden they have clicked. They understand each other that little better and she understands why he is a little different and has accepted that she needs to treat him a little differently. Friday, was a huge moment for them. We came down in the morning when they had both awoken and Dylan was pottering about and Amellia was waking up and doing some drawing on her ipad.. when Dylan tottered over to her and sat up beside her all of his own accord. She then handed him her Ipad by choice and showed him what she was doing. She knows he really enjoys drawing so straight away he started to draw, he then took his little hand and placed it on hers. The squeal of delight out of Amellia was just magical. She didn’t want to move and declared this day to me as “The best day in her whole life” This is something that she has been waiting for, for a very long time!
img_4845They then sat like this for the next ten-fifteen minutes swapping whoevers hand was on top, while I melted with happiness for my little girl. This is the connection that she has been dying to get from her little brother since he was born and finally her dreams were coming true ❤

I had seen that the friendship was growing rather steadily recently, like something had just clicked. She seemed to know when he didn’t want fussed over but was very quick to jump in when he was in a playful mood or was doing something she could do along side him! She did a lot of running about the house beside him before he would even acknowledge that she was there, but now he is looking for her when he starts running about, its magical.

img_4560-2

The other day they had lots of fun out on the trampoline together and Dylan got very upset when she got off, so she then got back on and bounced with him again! Then before she left she handed him a bit of chalk to draw with a zipped the trampoline up so he couldn’t get off by himself! This showed to me that she understood his cry was for her to come back, she then found something to distract him before she left and she also made sure her little brother was safe and couldn’t get hurt.

img_4817
This was on Thursday, she had gotten into the car beside him, and as you can see by her face, she is being careful not to touch him too much with her arm! He stayed a minute or two longer then was ready to depart and go back to the trampoline. His most favorite thing in the garden!

They are slowly working each other out, but today has been a big step in the right direction. I couldn’t be more proud of them both. When you have your sibling who understands you and supports you, it can really help you along.  ❤

Sensory Pasta Play!

This morning we woke up to a cold and wet day! Horrible, especially when I have two little ones to entertain as school is out for half term! I was trying to think on my toes of what to do with them that was a little different to the usual coloring or toys that we have! I decided on something sensory to try out, hoping that if my little man didn’t just dive in he would copy his sister and at least give it a try!

I hunted in the cupboards to see what I could find and I hunted out some pasta! Some sensory play, that isn’t to messy and wouldn’t stick to my little mans hands which is something he really doesn’t like! I had some swirly pasta and then i broke up some pasta sheets into a bowl.

img_2751

I then put the bowl on the floor and picked the pasta up and dropped it into the bowl so that it made a different noise and he came running out to see what was happening and he dove straight in! I was so happy, he was picking it up and running his hands through it all the time while laughing away. I then found a bigger container so that he could move them about a bit more and sit in it if he decided to.

He loved it, he was putting it between his toes, and even decided to take a little nibble on a bit which is truly incredible with his very strict diet and unwillingness to try anything different.

img_2795

A very simple sensory play, but it was very effective!
Next time I am out I am going to buy a few bags of different kinds of pasta and color them all different colors, so it is even more visual for him! After a week or two of playing with the pasta i am then going to start to put a few bits of cooked pasta in at a time, only a very small number at the start and then slowly building. I know slimy things are not his favorite and is the reason he wont eat several foods (ham, pasta, etc) so I am going to do it very slowly and hopefully he wont notice the change and will accept it very well! =]

Nursery, Toddler & Puppy!

Hello you lovely people who visit my blog! =]

Woohhoo I have been blogging for one year today, I started this last year!
Thank you for everyone who has followed me so far and I hope you enjoy it! =D

This past month has been crazy, my little girl has started nursery, my little boy is trying really hard to walk, I have started a new venture, puppy training and all the other things that come along with life! I’ll fill you in on the exciting bits! =]

Nursery.. it’s a bit strange at the moment as they are starting them very slowly! So much so that she has told me that it is boring as they don’t have enough time to do anything and they just do story time. I do think that half an hour is not long enough at all for them to settle. I think it would be better if they were in everyday and build the hours up. She is in random days at the moment and doesn’t have a clue if she is coming or going! Thankfully they do start a bit more normal soon, so I’m sure she will love it then! She just can’t get her head around when is going! I am excited for it to start normally, though I do wish she had got a morning place as it would make it a lot easier to get up and go out. It would also mean that you could actually do something else with the day!

My little man is very eager to walk, so eager actually that he will let go of the sofa at the edge move his foot then fall flat on his face! He just needs to get the balance down! I can’t believe that he is nine months old now! It seems to have gone a lot quicker with him than it did with my little girl, though I am going to thoroughly enjoy spending 1-1 time with my little man! Not sure he is going to enjoy it quite as much as I do though.. he spends his days following his big sister, watching everything she does and stealing her food!

Puppy training is going well! She very rarely has accidents during the day now, and when she does it generally is my own fault as I haven’t picked up on her little hints! She loves going for walks and is perfect on the lead and walks happily by your side.. untill she sees another dog or human! But thats just normal, she also is learning the basics very quickly! I am taking her to a puppy class which is one day a week for an hour for five weeks. It is really good! It is more just for the tips and to be reminded of what is sort of the obvious really! It’s great though as she gets socialized with the rest of the dogs that go and she gets to see lots of new people!
Pictures of her first visit to the beach to make you smile! 😀

Have you ever took a puppy to puppy classes? Did you find them helpful!
How are your little ones settling into school now?
Anything exciting to share?

I’m going to do another post now about my new venture! Eeek.. it’s exciting! =D

Right or Wrong?

This was something that someone said to me a while ago, but I was talking about it with a friend recently and I thought I would write a little blog and see what you guys thought about it!

What does Marriage mean to you?
The Oxford dictionary gives it the definition as “The legally or formally recognized union of a man and a woman (or, in some jurisdictions, two people of the same sex) as partners in a relationship:

To me, marriage is something that you do whenever you really love someone. It’s a way of showing someone that you love them so much that you can’t imagine or want to think of life without them. You love them unconditionally and want to be with them for the rest of your life.
What would you say marriage means to you?

The reason I ask is that my little girl has told us since her brother was a week old, that they will get married, and she can’t wait to wear a pretty dress. She likes to play weddings and pretend to get married to him, they then have to have a fancy dinner and dance. She was at my wedding you see, that is why she is clued in! 😛

I personally, find it absolutely beautiful. To me it shows how great her love is for him and how much she cares and cherishes him! I never tell her not to say it, I never tell her that she can’t or that it is wrong. She is three, does she really need to know that she can’t, she will learn that as she grows. Should I really tell her that it is wrong? Taint the way that she views it all? Because to me.. Marriage really is about love, and if she thinks this and this is her way of telling us just how much she loves her brother, why should I tell her off? Surely it will just confuse her little innocent mind?

One of my husbands friends partner was over our house whenever my little girl announced to her that she was going to marry her brother. This woman then started to say in a loud and horrible voice “You can’t do that, that is disgusting thing to say” “That is incest” “ewww” and the such… she then started to say to me “how can you let her say that?” i politely replied with “Personally I think its pretty cute actually, she really loves him.” When they then left I said to my husband about it and how I thought that her even saying that to my daughter was completely wrong, that if she didn’t agree with that she should have just ignored it and let us handle with it, if we thought it needed dealt with.

Thankfully my daughter just ignored her and asked me what did she say and I just said that she was talking to mummy.

I remember when I was younger I wanted to get a big house and live with my brother and sister forever on a farm. I wanted to marry my brother at some stage too! Not a clue why mind you… hes a bit .. different! 😛

Though I was just wondering what was your view on this? Am I in the wrong, is it completely disgusting? Or is it just a lovely way of her expressing her feelings and how much she loves him?

Leaps?

We all find different things useful and some babies take dislikes or likes to what others like! Children are all individuals, even when they are little tiny newborns! People seem to think that they have to follow certain routines, do certain things and even follow a line of weigh gain! To me, this is madness! My little man will roll over when he wants, talk when he wants, cry when he wants and weigh as much as he wants! In a group that I am in people are even obsessed with this “Leap” thing.. now I don’t know much about it.. but they are all hooked on the idea that there babies go through certain leaps at certain ages and they last for a said amount of time. For example they are mainly all going through “leap 4”? at the moment! I don’t have a clue what it means, but from reading what they say.. it basically means there baby cries constantly with nothing settling them.. they blame this all on leap 4. Some of them seem to be going crazy asking others for advice on what to do… my advice.. cuddle them, show them a toy, take them for a walk, change there nappy, give them some more milk.. or all the normal things that we try! They always come back with.. no they had milk an hour ago, nappy just changed they just wont stop crying.. to me this sounds crazy that they haven’t tried more milk! It to me is what I go to after trying all of the above, and generally it works straight away and he goes fast asleep! Babies can be hungry whenever they want, they are growing in all ways and that takes a lot of work! They all seem to think that there babies can only eat every four hours and will not be hungry again. Madness, right? Maybe because they have got these ideas planted in there minds, and thoughts they are obsessing and then stressing out about it so the baby then picks up on the bad vibes and upset of there mummies so it upsets them! I don’t know.. Do any of you guys follow this leap idea? Care to enlighten me about it! Do you agree that all babies should do the same things, at the same time and follow the weight & height “line”? Am I just extremely lucky that for the past few weeks my baby boy hasn’t been screaming his head off all the time without anything comforting him?

I would love to hear your thoughts!

Imagination and baking!

How do the minds of little ones work?

I would love to know the answer if anyone has it? My little ones mind seems to jump from one thing to another so quickly! Her imagination is fantastic! Today several times i have had to put on my imaginary gloves, hat and scarf and play in the snow and make snow angels! She hasn’t even really seen snow! Well.. She did once when she was about one but not loads of snow for building snow men in, and she was only one so would she really remember! She was making me build a snowman too, we were rolling the imaginary ball about the floor until she was completely satisfied it was big enough then doing another for his head, putting eyes on and all the rest! I was fascinated by her knowing how to do this, though I suppose she must have seen it on t.v? Oh I know where! The snowman and the snow dog, she loves that little short film! I have watched it many times and it always gets me in the mood for Christmas! I can’t wait for it as she will be able to enjoy it fully.. Just fingers crossed, I’m not in labour or in hospital over Christmas or I will cry more than just a normal woman in labour 😉

IMG_0046.JPG

When my hubby came in from work he was put the test of imagination too, as you can see from the picture above! He was having to pretend he was in a sled and she was his snow dog pulling the sled for him! She went nuts every time she let go and kept saying “no daddy, hold my tshirt” lol! She is a mad one for sure! After that she made them go into there snow cave and hug for warmth while tickling there ten babies.. I hope she realises I never plan to have ten babies!!
They then had to play doctors and daddy had to lay on the floor while she did his heart for him and he then made a beeping noise every time she pushed his tummy! This amused her greatly, so much so I think this lasted for about half an hour! Mind you I was grateful to be able to just sit down for a while without having to run about like mad!!

When I picked her up from nursery she wanted to do some baking, so that’s what we did! I cheated a little as we had one of those packs where you just add water and an egg then mix and hey presto, yummy cup cakes! She had such a blast making these and tasting them before they were done, to which she informed me tasted nicer than when cooked! We also made some cookies which the hubby was chuffed with when he got in from work! She loves baking and making a mess! I think the best bit though is tasting it as you go along! Here is a few pictures of what the final outcome was like and how great she is at tasting and doing her new “cheese puppy dog eyes” the cookies was a very simple recipe, I just made the mistake of mixing the chocolate buttons in to the mix, in the mixer so they all got destroyed and putting them all in the oven at once! Oops! Though still taste great!

Cuties!

I am so excited and loving the connection that my little girl already has with my bump! I thought with her only being 2 (3 in October) that she wouldn’t really understand it at all, though at times I think she has a better understanding than my hubby! 😛

Most mornings she comes in says good morning to me and then will proceed to cuddle my tummy and say good morning to baby! She is convinced she can see baby through my belly button, and will sing to baby, talk, and ask question to baby through my belly button. It is adorable and always makes me and the hubby smile! She will lay on my bump when baby is Kicking and laugh away as baby kicks her little head, then will tell baby off for kicking mummy in the tummy!

At the moment I am finding it hard when bending down and all the simple things.. So My little girl always laughs and says baby is making you sore mummy, he is growing in your tummy with his blood. I find this a great little understanding she has, as she knows that a baby is growing in my tummy and yes like everyone else baby will have blood inside! She tells me about how she grew in my tummy and that she left her toys so baby can play win them, she finds great comfort in knowing that baby has toys to play with, if you suggest that baby is just floating about she gets quite distressed and upset about how baby will be scared then!

I don’t think I give her enough credit, she will often come off with things or tell me things that I would never expect her to know, like that people have blood in them, baby’s are delicate, she said to my hubby one day about how she would like a construction toy and this blew his mind! It’s not a normal world for such a little character to know right? Where has she picked this word up from, I would say we never say that word in this house because well.. It’s an odd word to use in a daily context, or at least I think so anyway! There is many others but now that I’m trying to think of them I can’t remember, which seems to happen far to much for my liking!

I work as a classroom assistant and find some of the things the kids come off with adorable, and they always know how to make you smile! The kids I work with are in P6 here, so they are 9 coming 10. One of the girls came up to me when we were out in the playground and said to me so seriously “Mrs, I have a question for you, over the summer did you get pregnant?” I felt like replying, no .. I just ate all the pies! Lol! But I did say to her yes I am, she leaped with joy and gave me a giant hug and it made me feel so lovely! She then carried on to say I’m glad that you just aren’t fat now because that would have been embarrassing, but I think your going to be a great mum, I would love you to be my mum. How adorable can little ones be? Obviously this made me smile and made my day 🙂 then the other day a boy in my year opened the door and said “beauty before the beast and obviously your the beauty” how sweet is that? More so because it seemed just like a genuine thing for him to say, there was no back reason to why he said it, he didn’t want anything from me, it was just a genuine compliment 🙂

Anyway; must dash!!
