Airplane Bags!

This time next week we are going to be in Disney World! I cannot wait, its a big secret from little miss and she hasn’t got a clue. She is in for the most amazing shock! She is always asking to go down and spend time with my parents so we are going to tell her that we are going down to spend 2 weeks with them and then let my dad tell her that we are all going away to Disney, she is literally going to lose it!
I’m pretty nervous about the 9 hour flight.. Dylan should be ok once he has got used to the noise as he will happily sit and watch his Ipad, Amellia doesn’t like staying still for more than five minutes. It’s going to be an experience.. Ad made a joke about buying everyone on the flight a pair of ear plugs and handing them out at the start, I’m thinking maybe he actually should, lol!
I thought I’d share a little post of what I have in there bags for on the airplane, maybe give you some ideas for if you go traveling with little people!

Fully charged IPads with movies and YouTube videos that they know and love downloaded, new apps put on but also the ones that they use already, especially for Dylan. He is happier doing things that he is used to and knows how to do. I’ll do another post shortly with the apps he uses now, but here is the apps he loved last year and the majority of these are still played regularly. To go with the IPads I have also got two power packs so that we can recharge them when the kids hopefully sleep on the flight..

Colourings books with twistable crayons have been added too, if you haven’t seen the twistable crayons before they are amazing! We love them, so much easier than having to sharpen crayons etc. Amellia has got one of the Top Model books, they are full of outlines of people who you then draw clothes/hair etc onto them and Dylan has one full of Thomas the Tank engines!

Stickers, stickers and more stickers. Both of the kiddies love stickers so I have got a selection of different ones and have done that awesome mum hack of peeling off the outsides of them so the stickers come off easily without the kids getting angry at them and ending up ripping the stickers which then ends in tears. I have got them a book of blank pages each to stick them onto and to draw pictures on too.

Reading books, more for Dylan than Amellia as he loves reading and looking at books. I have got him an alphabet book, number one, shapes & colours. He has lots of alphabet toys but I didn’t want to bring them on the plane with us because if he gets mad and throws it then we will have to get everyone to hunt to find the letters to calm him, which would be pretty awkward! Amellia has got a reading book about Tinkerbell to keep her going.

I got a little set of play doh for Amellia to have on the plane, but not one for Dylan because he really enjoys eating and licking play doh.. yep he wont eat food but he just loves that horrible play doh taste. Typical. I have also got Amellia a Disney 3DS game so will be putting my DS in her bag for her to use and hopefully keep her entertained for a little while.

Finally i have put a few blind bags in as these bring a lot of excitement to little ones and entertainment while they play with them, oh and also headphones and noise cancelling headphones. Dylan currently wont wear noise cancelling headphones but I am thinking that if we are on the plane and the noise is really annoying him and wont just go away hopefully he will realise they help, along with favourite teddies for comfort!

What do you take with you on the plane? Any other things you think would keep my pair entertained?!

Newcastle Adventures #3

After all that excitement from on the plane and the tram it was onwards to go and do a spot of shopping in Newcastle! First off though we grabbed a bite to eat from a lovely little Chinese shop, they were fantastic! I hadn’t ever had them before but I think they were called dumplings? Here they are;

We then headed on to find me an outfit to wear out that night, we must have exhausted all the shops looking for a pretty dress, but we just couldn’t find anything that jumped out at us! So I settled for an AC/DC top, shorts & tights! In a funny way it reminded me of myself before I became a mum! I used to wear shorts and tights all the time and used to have a rocking AC/DC t-shirt, that I haven’t been able to squish into for a long time now! I didn’t feel to bad though!

While we were walking back up the main street.. Newcastle is huge by the way! A lot bigger than I had expected and I was nearly getting Louise to get a lead for me as I was pretty scared of getting lost in such a huge place! We saw an Owl, now she is obsessed with owls; so she spent nearly ten minutes talking to the lady about the owl and stroking it, next we bumped into a beat boxing spider man, he was pretty impressive though! It was then time to head back to her apartment and get ready for going out to dinner and having some cocktails!

We headed out to the Alchemist! I have never seen such an impressive cocktail list and with so many of them that did funky stuff; It took me a long time to choose what one to have first and then to order some food. When it all came I was very impressed, extremely tasty and those cocktails were strong! We then headed onto another pub to have a few drinks and a dander around to see the bridges lit up at night! There was an awful lot of bridges!

The next day was spent mainly recovering until it was time to go and see Madina Lake, which you are read all about here!

The next day was time to come home and the whole trip had gone far too fast, though not quite as fast as the power walk Louise decided to take me on to see her new house! I do now know how she walks so fast! I ended up with a stitch and I was so knackered I couldn’t wait to sit down in the taxi! She had a little giggle at how when she went really fast, I had to jog to keep up!

The flight home went smoothly and my wonderful family were waiting to pick me up.. my daughter had some wonderful comments “I forgot what you looked like” & “Your a cow noob” .. kids are great!

My next adventure is to Manchester with my sister to go to BlogOnXmas in September! =D

Delamont Park

Today we had a lovely family day out, and you are from Northern Ireland or are over here visiting I really suggest visiting Delamont Park! It’s just a thirty minute drive from Belfast center and a five minute drive from Downpatrick It’s also a very affordable day out, we have found that many places you will go and visit cost rather a lot of money for a family of four to get in, but to get into Delamont Park was a tiny amount of Β£4. Which is amazing considering all that is there!

There are several different walks and are all sign posted and you also get a map whenever you go into the park which shows you where the routes go, how long they are and what you can find along the way! We opted for one of the shorter walks because we had the children with us, and we didn’t fancy having to carry little miss around the walk when her legs got tired! We went for the 4km walk, there are ones which are also shorter than this and also longer so there is a walk for everyone to do! The only thing I would say is that on the map you are given it doesn’t give you any sort of idea of the terrain, the path was excellent and very easy to push a pram along, though is very stony. I think having our baby jogger GT made it easier to push with the big wheels I’m not sure how easy a pram with slandered wheels would have been to push! My little girl found it a little difficult as a lot was uphill which we hadn’t really thought about, but she kept going with a bit of encouragement! She particularly loved seeing the sheep along the way and stopped at every one to try and entice them over with some grass..this didn’t go in her favor! Along the walk were some incredible views, and things to stop at. Several little stone beaches, a bird watching area, and many more but we were enjoying the walk so much we didn’t stop at these things, though I will make a point of ensuring we do this when we go back!

When we first arrived we started with our picnic, there was so many benches and open bits of grass to sit on so lots of space for whenever it is busy to enjoy you picnic without many around you! My little one was eager to sit on the grass and have hers, so this is what we did and had some lovely little sandwiches before we headed off on our adventure! #

After our walk we went on this wonderful little train which is designed to look like Thomas, it runs along a 1KM track and was really enjoyable! The little ones loved being on a train and really enjoyed it and I took in some of the wonderful views around while really cherishing the time we were spending together!

Next stop was the play park, what little ones don’t love parks right! Well this is one that is truly going to be enjoyed by any park lover. It is just wonderful, lots of wonderful wood climbing frames, slides, puzzles and much more. I really liked that they had a climbing frame for all ages! There was a big and a little one like you would find in more parks, but also a medium sized one too, which my little girl really enjoyed. She likes the big ones but wants you to go up them with her and with it being a bit busy, I wasn’t for climbing up with her and getting in the way of everyone! She went off and enjoyed the big one for a short while but wanted to play with her brother so spent a lot of the time on the little one with him, which was great as there was no one else on it! There was also a zip wire which she really enjoyed. As well as there being some great climbing frames/ balancing things/slides etc there was also a lot of open space to run about. My little boy really liked this as he likes to just potter about and explore the world around him rather than climbing on climbing frames and going on swings etc!

Beside the park there was also one of those metal gyms that are becoming increasingly popular, and there are also some of the single gym items placed along the walks too! Just in-case you were wanting to go there to jog/workout ..

We ended our day by then going out for dinner and coming home and having a lovely bath! Both the kids are now fast asleep in bed, and we are just about to settle down to watch a move! All in all we had a fantastic day and will be back to Delamont Park very soon; in fact we enjoyed it so much we are going to get the season pass so we will be visiting it many more times! I will let you know if we find anything else about in Delamont Park that we think is a must see while there.. but for now, you should really go there, enjoy the peace, views, beauty and nature. Oh & the park and the train if you have little ones with you!

Let me know if you go for a visit and what you think! =]

Ulster Folk Museum

This is a lovely place just outside Holywood! I would highly recommended giving it a little visit if you live near, or come here on Holiday! It is a little old village from the early 20th century, kept just how it was, with the old types of streets, houses, churches and even has a little old bank, police station and many more! One of my favorite places is the little old sweet shop, it is just fantastic, all in jars with loads of different sweets! They also use the old weighing scales which really adds to the experience, especially for little ones! We left the sweet shop with far to many sweets.. though they were all simply delightful!

We all had a fantastic day out! My daughter was amazed by all that they had to offer! She was constantly quizzing us about everything that she could see and asking the famous “why?” question! We tried to explain everything the best we could and explained it in way that she would understand! For example when looking at the bed rooms we explained saying that “thats where mummy and daddy would have slept and that where you would have slept” this seemed to help her understand things a lot easier! After a few houses she would then be asking “is this were I would have slept/ate/went to the toilet” and such forth! She really couldn’t get her head around the idea of having to go to the toilet outside or in a pot! It is a great place, lots of open space to run about and a great place to help little ones brains grow and be educated! We got to explore in an old bank, coal bunker, police station, and then after we had explored enough and needed a little break there was an adorable little cafe!Β  My little girl and hubby had stew, which they both adored & a fantastic big thing of chips, they were particularly tasty chips!

Yummy Strew!

Yummy Strew!

We then carried on with our journey! There is a walk there that they say takes 2-3 hours! we were going to attempt it, but after we had walked about 15 minutes my little girls legs just wouldn’t carry her any further, do we decided to turn back and we would go one day and just go for the walk rather than going round all the houses first! We had walked around the houses for about 3 hours mind you, so for a mini me.. thats pretty long! Especially when its all so exciting!

In the police station she had great fun going into the cells and seeing what it would be like if you had done something bad! They also had a little museum type idea up the stairs which had lots of information about the police back then, how they got about and what they had to wear! She particularly liked looking at the penny-farthing! Amazed by how anyone could get onto them!

Trying to escape from the jail!

In one of the old houses they also had things to show you how they washed the old clothes and dried them! She tried out how they used to dry them.. then said “mummy you could have done this” … Thanks chick!!

After all the exploring and learning we found a big hill, and she got to have a new experience… one that I’m sure a lot of us did when we were little! Rolling down it! She didn’t quite get the whole idea of it, or how to do it, but she did have great fun trying to do it and so did daddy! They are a great pair! ❀

It was a fantastic day out and we cant wait to go back and do the big walk, and also to go to the transport bit of this museum! We took her whenever she was a lot younger, but she loved it then so I’m sure she will love it whenever we get to go to it again! It has old cars, trains, buses, emergency, carts, boats and lots of other fun things! It is great because you get to get onto the trains and explore them and pretend to drive them! My little girl has a fantastic imagination and role playing is one of her favorite things.. so I am sure we will spend a very long time there!
