Sweetpea Pantry Review

Recently we got sent some lovely baking mixes from the Sweetpea Pantry. Sweetpea Pantry sell many different baking mixes that are all gluten and dairy free, they also have no added sugar and include vegan friendly ways to make them too. They cost £2.75 each which I think is a great price especially with them being healthy and you getting the fun of making them. On the back of some of the packets is a way to make them vegan or not too which I think is great as not everyone who wants to eat things healthy are vegans, We aren’t so we didn’t go with the vegan options.Online you can also buy a mix pack of 4 or 6 where you can choose which ones you want and save some money trying a few.

We got sent the brownie and the energy ball mix to try and see what we thought.
Amellia decided that the brownie mix looked the best so we decided to make it together, it was so lovely to spend some time together with her having fun. We danced, sang and made up songs while we mixed all the ingredients together and they baked. She enjoyed cracking the eggs into the mixture the most.. I did have to fish out a few bits of egg-shell but hey isn’t that part of the fun when baking with kids!
We had a little play outside while they baked and then headed in excitedly to see how they turned out.
Amellia was not overly impressed with the brownies, she has never been a chocolate fan and she wouldn’t normally choose brownies if we were out, but obviously they did not taste like a brownie you would buy in a café because they weren’t full of sugar. Though personally I thought they tasted pretty good for healthy brownies and really enjoyed them.

I then made up the energy balls, they didn’t involve much making at all which was perfect for a quick and healthy snack. I then popped them in the fridge and Ad & myself really enjoyed them after they had chilled for a while. Ad enjoyed them so much that he has requested a place an order for several boxes of them for him! They tasted just as we had expected, healthy, coconutty and yummy with the added bonus that I could brag about making them. On the pack it recommended that you could make approximately 12 but I decided to make 6 bigger ones instead as they stuck together easier when bigger.

We really enjoyed these and I will be placing an order shortly to satisfy Ads need for more energy balls and I really want to try the pizza dough, pancake mix and the flapjacks! They all look like a lot of fun to make and very tasty.
Thanks Sweetpea for sending me these!

Appy Kids Co!

With it being the summer time I am finding it nearly impossible to keep snacks and drinks in the house, aren’t you?!
My little girl is an eating, drinking, talking and moving machine, so whenever the lovely team over at appy kids co asked me if I could review some of their new drinks and snacks that aren’t even out in the shops yet, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on them for the kids to enjoy!

Whenever the drinks and snacks from appy kids co arrived Amellia was super excited that they were covered in minions! We love the minions movie in our house. It always provide us all with giggles, smiles and  quality time together. Having a much-loved film on healthy snacks and drinks is also a great way to encourage children to eat them. Thankfully for me though, Amellia will try anything at all and enjoys near enough everything! With Dylan, it wouldn’t make any difference what was on the packaging etc, it just depends on what the actual food looks like.

Amellia got stuck right into the juice as soon as we opened it, and she really loved it! She finished it right up and she then polished off a pack off the Mulberries & Raisins and had another two packets and gave her little brother a pack too!  She tried to give her brother a drink too, but unfortunately this ended up him covered in juice as he just squeezed the pouch! Though with a little help with his next one he really enjoyed it, and was trying to get some of his sisters on too!

img_8817These drinks and snacks were thoroughly enjoyed and I am always glad to be giving my children healthy alternatives! Unfortunately only one store in Northern Ireland stocks them, but if I am ever in the direction of the shop I will be sure to pop in and grab more!
You can find out where stores near you are that stock them and what other items they do over on their website at; www.appykidsco.com

Food Revolution Day!

I know.. Food Revolution Day was the fifteenth of May, but it sure does need a good old look into!

I heard the fantastic song the other day when browsing through YouTube for a song to listen too and I came across the song that Ed Sheeran wrote for Food Revolution Day! If you haven’t heard it yet you should really listen to it and you can find it here!

The first thing that really struck me was what Jamie Oliver said (Sorry Rapped :P) in the first verse

Half the world is starving with too little to eat
And the other half die from being obese

This is so true.. and incredibly disgusting! Did you know that 42 million children under the age of five are either overweight or obese! How horible is that, the only people to blame for that is there parents! It made me feel sick when I read that statement! How could someone be so uncaring and blinded that they don’t see what they doing to there kids! It’s easy to see when your child is getting obese/overweight, and you are the ones who choose what you feed them! If you use the excuse that oh, but s/he wont eat the fruit/veg and prefers all the processed food… I’m sorry but a bit of tough love is going to go a long way! Would you rather your child has a harder life because they then go on to develop heart problems and the such and then dying early because you didn’t want to have your child crying at you because you wouldn’t give them that extra chocolate bar!

We need to teach our children how to cook, get them involved with the cooking in the kitchen and they will then enjoy the food more and will be learning life skills for whenever they are older! Rather than living off convenience food! There is a huge range of healthy dinners that can be cooked in the same time as convenience food, it just means you have to do something rather than just turning on the oven! Use it as a family bonding time and all cook together! Children today, are the first generation predicted to live shorter lives than there parents, how horrifying is that! We should be moving forward, not backwards!

The Food Revolution Day this year, is fighting to put compulsory practical food education on the school curriculum! I think this is a great thing! It will help children to start to learn about where there food comes from, whats in it, what is best for them and there children when they are older and how to cook lovely, healthy and tasty food!  We need to give our children and possibly our grandchildren the best life we can and providing them with these skills is desperately needed for our children to lead, happy, healthier and longer lifes!

Like Jamie Oliver says and i completely agree with;

This is every child’s human right!

From Jamie Oliver to Everyone;

If you can help me get millions of people to sign this petition, we can create a movement powerful enough to force all G20 governments to take action. Food education will make a difference to the lives of the next generations, so please help. I can’t do it without you.

So please; Sign the petition here then share it with your friends!
Lets kick obesity in the ass and give our children a better chance at life!
