Pretty Muddy 5K, Completed!! =D

Two days ago on the 30th of May, me and my friend participated in the Pretty Muddy 5K Race For Life!
Much to my amazement I finished it, without having to sit down, crawl or be carried during any part! 5K, is three miles! A long time ago before I had any children that wouldn’t have been much of a bother for me! I used to grab any sporting event by the horns and jump right on board! I used to do a lot of gymnastics, trampolining, horse riding, athletics.. literally whatever was going! I even ended up as Games Captain in my school, not too sure how! Though recently.. after having my second I have really let myself go and its disappointing.. So, after doing this run it has made me be kicked into gear! Time to start eating a bit more healthy and doing some exercise.. even if it is jumping about my living room like a monkey for an hour a night!

This was how I looked before doing the run;

So, before we did the run, they got us all into a little group and made us do some warming up! Which was a great idea.. because I would have forgot otherwise! It was like a Zumba style warm-up and it was great fun! Infact.. I think I am going to treat myself to a Zumba DVD or something, as it really was a good laugh while we were doing it, I could even get my little girl in on the action!
After that there was a few little talky bits.. then the run began! The first obstacle, blow up hurdles.. well sort of.. This was when I realized that I was infact.. short. After all these years convincing myself that I’m not actually that short, I am! Most people were just jumping over these things, or swinging there leg over and I, well I had to take a running leap of faith to hope that I could get my leg anywhere near them! I seriously thought I was going to end up on my face.. thankfully these ones had no mud involved! Though the next lot of these did, but after having getting used to them on the ones before they weren’t to bad.. even the added mud wasn’t too much of a distraction.. untill me and my friend got a bucket of ice cold water thrown over us.. horrid. The next obstacle then was where you had to crawl under a net, army style in the mud; Though I must admit I wasn’t to impressed with the lack of mud on this one… crazy I know! Then the next one was where you had to climb up over one side and down another .. sort of like something you see in a play park.. though no mud at all this time! ='[ After we had completed this.. we had already done 1K we were amazed at how quick that had went! We then carried on… and found no more obstacles! We sort of slowly jogged a good bit of this, hoping to find more obstacles but ended up in a forest.. so we stopped jogging, our legs were getting tired, but we pushed on.. and made sure we kept up a power walk rather than slowing down too much! The next obstacle was then like they do in the army again.. the tyre thing, where you have to just .. alternatively step I suppose is the best way to explain it I think? Yet again.. no mud!! & this was at 4K! Only 1 more left to go.. where was all the mud and obstacles! Then after our power walking & chatting we decided when we saw the 4K to jog again, so on the home straight.. that was really where the mud came into play, and the obstacles.. kinda! Two obstacles.. one where you had to crawl on your hands and knees with mud up to your tummy & a guy shoveling mud all over you and then the final one.. you climbed up a giant inflatable slide .. slid down the slide, into a giant puddle of mud… and a guy squirting you with a hose! Here was my attempt at going down the slide.. while avoiding the man with the hose..

This was me & my friend after we had just finished;

So all in all we had a fantastic time, doing this for an amazing cause and together we raised approx £200, so I am proud of us! =] It also only took us 40 minutes to complete the course.. now I Know to some of you that probably sounds like a really long time.. but to us, especially me it felt like a great achievement and really gave me the encouragement to start training, or even just doing Zumba in my living room every other night! The only thing I was a little disappointed in was the lack of obstacles and the lack of mud!

Though I shouldn’t really complain we had a blast.. and are now looking at doing The Colour Run in August for the NSPCC! For those of you who don’t know the NSPCC is a charity set up to fight against child abuse in Northern Ireland & The Channel Island.

I hope this has encouraged any of you have been thinking of doing something like this to give it a shot! If you think you can’t do it.. you can!! You just have to keep positive and moving! =]

To hopefully leave you with a smile on your face.. here is our selfie of us covered in mud & still smiling! =]

5K Pretty Muddy Cancer Run!

Me & my best chum are doing a 5K run next Friday, not only is it just a run.. its through mud and over a blow up obstacles course! I’m super excited to do this and also pretty certain by the end of the run I’ll be collapsed in the corner!

When I was in school I was very sporty and did everything sporty that I could! I even went on to be Games Captian in my school! Though since having my wonderful kids.. I haven’t really done anything at all! I wish I could get the time to do some but hey.. with two kids who really does have the time!? I wouldn’t have the courage to do it anymore either.. or the fitness level! lol!

Back on to this run though! It is to help raise money towards finding ways to cure cancer! I do love there way that they explain about the obstacles. “We want you to give every single obstacle your absolute best as this is your way to show cancer you mean business.” I don’t plan on avoiding any of the obstacles but if one is really tough.. I’ll just think of that and get over it!

Cancer has affected many people in the world, and several people who are close to me. Whenever I was younger, my mum got diagnosed with skin cancer.. this obviously made us all very worried/upset but because of how far all the scientists have came with a cure my mum just had to have a simple little operation, check ups for a good while after and now she is cancer free! My father in law also was diagnosed with cancer but has kicked it right in the ass & is now going on strong!

Though, a close family friends husband has recently been diagnosed and is a long, slow and painful path! Obviously we all have our fingers crossed and have our hope & faith in the scientist that have been researching it all to hopefully be able to enable him to live a full life and to continue to see his daughters & son grow, and enjoy it with his wife!

My friend who I am doing this run with though, has a huge reason to do this. When she was younger her mum got diagnosed with cancer and she wasn’t fortunate to win the battle.

I am sure that me and her are going to have a laugh doing this race and we will be very proud of each other with how hard we try! Fingers crossed we are able to provide Race for Life with a nice amount of money that they will be able to keep building there knowledge and finding cures with!

Have you guys done any sponsored runs/walks or the such? I wold love to hear how you did!

Oh & just incase you wanted to sponsor us you can do it Here

If you do sponsor us, thank you a huge deal! You are wonderful!

Toucan Box craft

Bit of a different blog for you guys today. Though I had to blog about this box as it was just downright fantastic.

As I was pondering on what to do with my three year old when she got home and the hubby had gone out to wet the babies head, I got a wonderful delievery from the postman. I had seen an advert on my facebook for a little box called a Toucan box; Basically it is a little box which has all the materials and instrutions in it to make a craft item. You can choose from a couple of options on there website of how often you want them, how many craft ideas and extra supplies for more children, I think the extra supplies thing is fab idea and I will be doing this whenever my little man is old enough to join in! When you have signed up for a box you then get to select what things your child enjoys so it gives the boxes a lovely little personal touch as you know they will enjoy all the crafts you receive.

So whenever she got home and the hubby had gone to enjoy himself, I told my litle girl that the post man had brought her a special parcel. She found this exceptionally exciting, seeing as she very rarely recieves post! Though I know that I find it exciting still as an adult to get unexpected parcels in the post,I was also pretty excited to see what these little boxes contained.

I was very excited whenever we opened it and found this;

All the wonderful things we would need to have a jellyfish race in our own house! Not only is it super cool to have a jellyfish race in your own house but my little girl adores the seaside! Her nanny and bampy live right by the seaside so she very much adores the seaside and anything to do with it! I was super impressed with how all of the craft bits incuded in this box were of very high standered. The ribbion is super thick and really impressed me! All the colours on the peices included in the box are very vibarent which obviously to my three year old and other little ones makes it even more appealing! I was pleasently surprised to find that the bits that were the body of the jelly fish, were of a sturdy cardboard and were already pre cut. They also already had holes along the bottom of them to make the jellyfish legs! I thought that I would have to create these holes myself and cut out his body, so it was super that it was all ready and all I had to do was simply trim the ribbion and the straw. With an impatint and excitable toddler, this was a mega bonus. So i quickly trimmed all of these things down so that we could get started on creting these racing jellyfish.

So, we got started.
I showed her the instructions and they were so beautifuy dispayed that she could even understand them! Every stage was illistrated so well that you hardly need to even read the instuctions that are written below the pictures.

wpid-wp-1422460292826.jpeg

As you can see; this craft really held her attention! I think it is because she could follow the instructions and all of the bits were ready waiting for her to just put them where she was meant to! She needed help with a few parts of this craft but with only being three I expected this and got the Toucan box so that it would give me ideas of what to do with her and hopefully help me think of new crafts to do with her.

Inside the box also comes a litle postcard idea with activities on the back for you to do with your children while you wait for your next box! :] On the front of the instructions it also gives you a messiness rating, a grown up assistnce level and also little facts about what you have just made. So for example with the box I got which included the kit to make the jellyfish came facts about the jellyfish to share with my three year old! Another great addition to the box is a “What we are learning” card. So for exaple this one is Science, Art & Design. It also gives you ideas of what to talk about to your child while doing the activity to help increase the knowledge they gain.

Here is our finshed product; I didnt want to give to much away as I really advise you try out one of these boxes!

wpid-wp-1422460275160.jpegwpid-wp-1422460269239.jpeg

They deliver to all of the UK at 98p for a petite box, which is what I got for my first box and £2.95 for a standard box. If you live outside of the UK they have an email address on the there website to contact the and to see how much it is. here is a link that will enable you to get your first box for free to try it out and if you really don’t like it well then its very simple to cancel.
Trust me though, you should give it a go and I hope you are as pleasantly surprised a how fab it is as I was!

Oh and another thing to add about these super cool boxes is that they come with little stickers/tokens and whenever you have enough you can then choose a prize. You can see which prizes they have on there website for you to choose from!
