Exploring with growing confidence.

I can’t wait for the good weather to start being a bit more constant… hopefully. I love nothing more than getting out and about exploring places around us with the kiddos, hubby and pup. Something about being out in the fresh air, enjoying each other’s company, throwing stones, building towers, climbing trees and just ignoring everyone else around us and forgetting everything that is going on just makes me feel so refreshed and like a weight has been lifted for a while.

My pair are both full to the brim with energy and love running free, Dylan has started to be a bit more adventurous when we go to places he is familiar with now and often heads off the path so I’m glad that we have many walks around us that are away from the roads and that he is safe when he does charge off in a random direction. Not so great for me because I’m then having to chase after him dodging tree stumps and everything because he doesn’t respond to his name or have danger awareness but also it is so amazing to see him actually enjoying something and looking forward to it when you tell him where we are going.

I have looked into those things that you tie around the child’s waste and then around yours, but I’m really not sure Dylan would tolerate it at all and we would end up going opposite directions around tree or clothes lining some other innocent person out on the walk. I’m hoping that over the summer we will be able to help him learn to respond to his name by doing lots of fun games but for now we are just over the moon that he is actually enjoying being outside.

Another favourite place for us all is the beach, if you get up nice and early like my pair do then the beach is empty so they get the run of the place without having to keep a close eye on them as they all go different directions. Lilo charges off to smell every single bit of seaweed, Amellia normally hightails it straight for the sea no matter the weather or how cold it is and discards her shoes and socks while running down the beach and Dylan plonks himself down on the sand right by the step to dig holes and draw in the sand. Sometimes Dylan will then run to the water to wash the sand off his feet but quickly comes back out to start his drawing in the sand again.

The beach always reminds me of my childhood, growing up with the sea as my back garden was incredible. We would always be out climbing on the rocks, hunting in the rockpools and seeing who could find the biggest crab; then as I got older, I started to really appreciate the beauty of the sea and taking in the view. When times get tough, I always go and sit by the sea, it’s my happy place.

I’m really looking forward to this summer and spending quality time with my kids and as a family, I live for the holidays from school.

Pretty Muddy 5K, Completed!! =D

Two days ago on the 30th of May, me and my friend participated in the Pretty Muddy 5K Race For Life!
Much to my amazement I finished it, without having to sit down, crawl or be carried during any part! 5K, is three miles! A long time ago before I had any children that wouldn’t have been much of a bother for me! I used to grab any sporting event by the horns and jump right on board! I used to do a lot of gymnastics, trampolining, horse riding, athletics.. literally whatever was going! I even ended up as Games Captain in my school, not too sure how! Though recently.. after having my second I have really let myself go and its disappointing.. So, after doing this run it has made me be kicked into gear! Time to start eating a bit more healthy and doing some exercise.. even if it is jumping about my living room like a monkey for an hour a night!

This was how I looked before doing the run;

So, before we did the run, they got us all into a little group and made us do some warming up! Which was a great idea.. because I would have forgot otherwise! It was like a Zumba style warm-up and it was great fun! Infact.. I think I am going to treat myself to a Zumba DVD or something, as it really was a good laugh while we were doing it, I could even get my little girl in on the action!
After that there was a few little talky bits.. then the run began! The first obstacle, blow up hurdles.. well sort of.. This was when I realized that I was infact.. short. After all these years convincing myself that I’m not actually that short, I am! Most people were just jumping over these things, or swinging there leg over and I, well I had to take a running leap of faith to hope that I could get my leg anywhere near them! I seriously thought I was going to end up on my face.. thankfully these ones had no mud involved! Though the next lot of these did, but after having getting used to them on the ones before they weren’t to bad.. even the added mud wasn’t too much of a distraction.. untill me and my friend got a bucket of ice cold water thrown over us.. horrid. The next obstacle then was where you had to crawl under a net, army style in the mud; Though I must admit I wasn’t to impressed with the lack of mud on this one… crazy I know! Then the next one was where you had to climb up over one side and down another .. sort of like something you see in a play park.. though no mud at all this time! ='[ After we had completed this.. we had already done 1K we were amazed at how quick that had went! We then carried on… and found no more obstacles! We sort of slowly jogged a good bit of this, hoping to find more obstacles but ended up in a forest.. so we stopped jogging, our legs were getting tired, but we pushed on.. and made sure we kept up a power walk rather than slowing down too much! The next obstacle was then like they do in the army again.. the tyre thing, where you have to just .. alternatively step I suppose is the best way to explain it I think? Yet again.. no mud!! & this was at 4K! Only 1 more left to go.. where was all the mud and obstacles! Then after our power walking & chatting we decided when we saw the 4K to jog again, so on the home straight.. that was really where the mud came into play, and the obstacles.. kinda! Two obstacles.. one where you had to crawl on your hands and knees with mud up to your tummy & a guy shoveling mud all over you and then the final one.. you climbed up a giant inflatable slide .. slid down the slide, into a giant puddle of mud… and a guy squirting you with a hose! Here was my attempt at going down the slide.. while avoiding the man with the hose..

This was me & my friend after we had just finished;

So all in all we had a fantastic time, doing this for an amazing cause and together we raised approx £200, so I am proud of us! =] It also only took us 40 minutes to complete the course.. now I Know to some of you that probably sounds like a really long time.. but to us, especially me it felt like a great achievement and really gave me the encouragement to start training, or even just doing Zumba in my living room every other night! The only thing I was a little disappointed in was the lack of obstacles and the lack of mud!

Though I shouldn’t really complain we had a blast.. and are now looking at doing The Colour Run in August for the NSPCC! For those of you who don’t know the NSPCC is a charity set up to fight against child abuse in Northern Ireland & The Channel Island.

I hope this has encouraged any of you have been thinking of doing something like this to give it a shot! If you think you can’t do it.. you can!! You just have to keep positive and moving! =]

To hopefully leave you with a smile on your face.. here is our selfie of us covered in mud & still smiling! =]

5K Pretty Muddy Cancer Run!

Me & my best chum are doing a 5K run next Friday, not only is it just a run.. its through mud and over a blow up obstacles course! I’m super excited to do this and also pretty certain by the end of the run I’ll be collapsed in the corner!

When I was in school I was very sporty and did everything sporty that I could! I even went on to be Games Captian in my school! Though since having my wonderful kids.. I haven’t really done anything at all! I wish I could get the time to do some but hey.. with two kids who really does have the time!? I wouldn’t have the courage to do it anymore either.. or the fitness level! lol!

Back on to this run though! It is to help raise money towards finding ways to cure cancer! I do love there way that they explain about the obstacles. “We want you to give every single obstacle your absolute best as this is your way to show cancer you mean business.” I don’t plan on avoiding any of the obstacles but if one is really tough.. I’ll just think of that and get over it!

Cancer has affected many people in the world, and several people who are close to me. Whenever I was younger, my mum got diagnosed with skin cancer.. this obviously made us all very worried/upset but because of how far all the scientists have came with a cure my mum just had to have a simple little operation, check ups for a good while after and now she is cancer free! My father in law also was diagnosed with cancer but has kicked it right in the ass & is now going on strong!

Though, a close family friends husband has recently been diagnosed and is a long, slow and painful path! Obviously we all have our fingers crossed and have our hope & faith in the scientist that have been researching it all to hopefully be able to enable him to live a full life and to continue to see his daughters & son grow, and enjoy it with his wife!

My friend who I am doing this run with though, has a huge reason to do this. When she was younger her mum got diagnosed with cancer and she wasn’t fortunate to win the battle.

I am sure that me and her are going to have a laugh doing this race and we will be very proud of each other with how hard we try! Fingers crossed we are able to provide Race for Life with a nice amount of money that they will be able to keep building there knowledge and finding cures with!

Have you guys done any sponsored runs/walks or the such? I wold love to hear how you did!

Oh & just incase you wanted to sponsor us you can do it Here

If you do sponsor us, thank you a huge deal! You are wonderful!
