I really must apologize for how long it has been since I lasted blogged. Something very tragic happened and we have been coping with that along with other news too! Moving on from that though…
I went on a sewing course with my sister which her lovely friend Jools teaches! This made it a lot easier seeing as I had never used a sewing machine in my life, and I was pretty convinced that I was going to fail at using one! I thought I was going to be heading to A&E after it with a needle stuck through my hand or something! Though I didn’t!
I first of all started my day with a very sweaty little girl roasting me awake! I looked at the clock and sprang out of bed, all excited for my new experience! So, I got a shower and got myself ready for a child free day.. they do exist! :O and started on my journey! My sister lives about a forty minute drive from my house, so as I was driving along I was just enjoying the sunshine and some head space for myself! Where my sister lives is just beautiful, every time I am there, even if it is just sitting in the car picking her up I get a sense of jealousy! Its such a lovely and peaceful place! Me & my sister had discussed what to wear before I had left my house.. and it being such a sunny day we deiced on sunshine clothes! Little summer dress & shorts… we should have guessed really.. but it ended up raining! It was then onwards to pick up Jools and head to our class! Though not before picking up a lovely caramel Latte!
We then went to the shop where Jools teaches some lovely folk how to use a sewing machine! When we first sat down she started to explain the machines, what everything did and how to do everything.. I got extremely lost and confused! Though she then showed us our fabric and told us she would explain things step by step as we went along.. phew what a relief! Here was my wonderful set-up. I was very excited and intrigued to get started!
As things progressed, and my sister and I discovered we need to use an iron… seriously, we were very shocked.. the only thing that gets ironed in this house is my hubbies work shirts, and he generally does that! So this was a whole new experience too! (I jest..kind of!)
After lots of chatting & guidance on what I was doing I was getting very excited by how my bag was starting to take shape! It wasn’t as stressful as I was expecting thankfully!
Here is an action shot of my sister, who was deep in concentration!
As you can see we both went for the same material, but its so awesome! It also matches the changing bag that I have for my little boy and has now found a lovely home staying safe in there for any shop visits I have! I used to always end up going and having to buy a bag as I always forgot to carry one with me! Now I have my very own handmade bag, I will always have a bag handy.. and with how my sewing went, it has very sturdy handles!
Jools had to help me to re thread the machine several times, as I just couldn’t get the hang of that! Then as we were nearing finishing our bags, I was starting to get the hang of it! I was super chuffed that my sister and I both ended up with near perfect bags and in such a beautiful pattern! I wouldn’t have been able to do it at all if I hadn’t had the guidance from Jools! It was such a fun experience and I would highly recommended it! We chatted, laughed and just had lots of fun while being productive! Thank you Jools and I am pretty sure my sister and I will be back to do the cushion course shortly!
How excited does my sister and myself look about our complete bags! We just couldn’t wait to use them that we had to stop on the way home to go to a shop and test them out! We then went to Jools house for a lovely lunch before heading out for a nosey at a few other shops!
I enjoyed myself so much that I am now looking at getting myself a sewing machine and making lots or other crafty makes! My daughter already has a request in for some clothes for her babies! eek! Any advice on what sewing machine you guys would go for? I’m so confused .. there is like 1000000 different ones!
I will be blogging again soon my lovelies!
